What is Screenity?
Screenity lets you record quick demos, tutorials and feedback videos without installing a desktop app. Recordings stay on your device, and the extension does not require an account to record and download. It suits teams that want a simple screen recorder in the browser they already use.
Screenity is a screen recorder and annotation tool that runs as a Chrome extension. It records a tab, an area, the desktop, an application or the camera, with microphone or computer audio. You can draw on the screen while recording, blur sensitive content, highlight clicks, and then trim, cut or crop the video before downloading it.
Core capabilities
- Records a tab, area, desktop, app or camera with mic or system audio.
- Lets you draw, add text and arrows, and blur content while recording.
- Trims, cuts and crops recordings, then downloads them or saves to Drive.
Recording options
Screenity can record a single tab, a selected area, the whole desktop, a specific application or just the camera. Audio can come from the microphone or the computer, and push to talk lets you speak only when needed. You can set a countdown and an alarm that stops the recording automatically. The project states that recordings have no length or number limits in the extension.

Annotation and editing
While recording you can draw on the screen and add text, arrows and shapes. Click highlighting, cursor spotlight and live blur of page content help viewers focus and keep private details hidden. After recording, the built-in editor can trim, cut, crop and add or remove audio. Finished videos can be downloaded, or saved to Google Drive once a client ID is configured. A separate paid service, Screenity Pro, adds link sharing, captions and multi-scene editing.

Load it yourself under GPL-3.0
You can install Screenity from the Chrome Web Store, or download Build.zip from the GitHub releases page, unzip it and load it with Load unpacked in developer mode. A copy loaded this way runs in local-only mode, with no API calls, sign-in or platform features. Developers can build it from source with npm install and npm start. Version 3.0.0 and later are released under the GPL-3.0 licence.

Use cases
- 01
Record a product walkthrough with your camera
Open the extension, choose to record a tab, a window or the whole desktop, and turn on the camera and microphone. Use push to talk to keep background noise out, and set a countdown before recording starts. An alarm can stop the recording automatically at a set time.
- 02
Point things out while you record
Draw anywhere on the page, add text, arrows and shapes, and turn on click highlighting or spotlight mode so viewers can follow the cursor. Blur any part of a page that shows private details before it appears in the video. The controls can be moved or hidden so they stay out of the way.
- 03
Tidy a recording before you send it
Open the recording in the built-in editor to trim the start and end, cut out mistakes, crop the frame or remove the audio. Download the result to your computer. If you load the extension yourself, set up your own Google Drive client ID first if you also want to save straight to Drive.
