What is Reactive Resume?

Reactive Resume helps job seekers write a clean resume and see the finished page as they type. It also checks the resume against a job posting and keeps track of where each application stands. The project has no tracking, no adverts and no paid tier, and you can run it on your own server.

Reactive Resume is a resume builder for writing resumes and cover letters with a live PDF preview. It offers 18 templates, readability and job-posting keyword checks, and a tracker for job applications. Resumes export as PDF, Word, Markdown or JSON, can be shared by public link, and optional AI features use a provider you connect.

Core capabilities

  • Edits resumes and cover letters with a live PDF preview and 18 templates.
  • Checks readability and matches your resume against a job posting.
  • Tracks job applications in list, board, insights and calendar views.

Writing and design

The editor works directly on the page, with rich text, custom sections, drag-and-drop ordering and a live PDF preview. There are 18 templates, with filters for one-column, two-column and ATS-safe layouts. Fonts, colours, spacing, A4 or Letter paper and sidebar position can all be changed, and content can be fitted to the page by adjusting density and margins. Cover letters have their own editor and can be linked to a resume so the sender details and design stay in sync.

Checks, imports and sharing

Readability checks pin findings to the relevant lines, and job-posting matching shows which keywords are covered. Resumes can be imported from Reactive Resume JSON, JSON Resume, LinkedIn data exports, PDF and Word files, though Word imports need a connected AI provider. Exports are available as PDF, Word, Markdown and JSON. A public link can share a resume, with optional password protection and view and download statistics. A REST API and an MCP server are also included.

Run it yourself under MIT

The hosted app at rxresu.me is free, and the same application can be self-hosted. The Docker guide uses the amruthpillai/reactive-resume or ghcr.io/reactive-resume/reactive-resume image with PostgreSQL and a folder or S3-compatible bucket for uploads, while Redis and SMTP are optional. Guides also cover Kubernetes, Vercel, Cloudflare Workers on a paid Workers plan, and Synology or UGREEN NAS devices. After creating your own account you can turn off public sign-ups with FLAG_DISABLE_SIGNUPS. Reactive Resume is released under the MIT licence.

Where it fits

Use cases

  1. 01

Rebuild an old resume in a new layout

Import an existing resume from a PDF, a Word file, a LinkedIn data export or JSON Resume. Pick one of the 18 templates, filtering for one-column, two-column or ATS-safe designs, and adjust fonts, colours, spacing and paper size. Download the finished resume as a PDF or Word file.

  2. 02

Tailor a resume to a job posting

Save the job from its URL or paste in the posting text. Run the resume checks to see readability findings and which keywords from the posting are missing, and view the text that hiring software reads from your PDF. If you have connected an AI provider, the assistant can propose edits and draft a matching cover letter for you to accept or reject.

  3. 03

    Keep track of every application

Add each job to the applications tracker and drag its card through stages such as Applied, Interview and Offer on the board view. Record contacts, notes, follow-ups and the documents you sent, and schedule interviews that can be exported as calendar events. Applications can be imported or exported as CSV.
