What is Plausible Analytics?
Plausible shows how many people visit your website, where they come from and what they read, on one simple page. It does this without cookies and without storing personal data, which makes privacy rules easier to meet. The Community Edition is free to run on your own server, so the data stays in your hands.
Plausible Community Edition is the self-hosted version of Plausible Analytics, a lightweight, privacy-focused web analytics tool. It shows the key traffic numbers on one dashboard without cookies or stored personal data, and tracks goals and custom events. It runs with Docker Compose on your own server, using PostgreSQL and ClickHouse.
Core capabilities
- Uses no cookies or persistent identifiers and stores no IP addresses.
- Shows all key traffic numbers on one dashboard, including a live view.
- Tracks goals, custom events, outbound links, file downloads and form submissions.
Privacy-first measurement
Plausible measures traffic, not individuals. It stores no personal data or IP addresses and uses no cookies or persistent identifiers, and the project describes it as compliant with GDPR, CCPA and PECR. The tracking script is small, which helps pages load quickly, and it supports single-page apps with pushState and hash-based routing. The JavaScript tracker is released under the MIT licence so it can be added to any site.

Dashboard, goals and sharing
All key metrics sit on a single dashboard, including a real-time view of current visitors. Goals can count page visits or custom events, and codeless tracking covers outbound links, file downloads, form submissions and 404 pages. Dashboards can be shared through links with optional passwords, and team members can be invited with roles. Past Google Analytics 4 data can be imported once the Google integration is set up.

Plausible Community Edition under AGPL-3.0
Plausible CE is installed from the community-edition repository with Docker Compose, after setting BASE_URL and SECRET_KEY_BASE in an .env file. It needs Docker, at least 2 GB of RAM and a CPU that ClickHouse supports, and it can obtain its own Let's Encrypt certificate. CE is released twice a year, is supported by the community, and leaves out premium features such as funnels, ecommerce revenue goals, SSO and the sites API, which are part of the paid Plausible Cloud service. Plausible CE is released under the AGPL-3.0 licence.

Where it fits
Use cases
- 01
Replace Google Analytics on a company website
Add your site and place the small Plausible script on every page. Visitors, sources, pages, locations and devices then appear on one dashboard. To keep your history, set GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID and GOOGLE_CLIENT_SECRET for the Google integration and import past Google Analytics 4 data under Imports & Exports in the site settings.
- 02
Measure sign-ups and other conversions
Create pageview goals for pages such as a thank-you page, or custom event goals sent from your own code. Codeless tracking can count outbound link clicks, file downloads, form submissions and 404 pages. Conversions then appear in the Goals section of the dashboard.
- 03
Share traffic numbers with clients or the public
In the site settings, open Visibility and choose Add shared link to give access to one dashboard, with an optional password. Viewers need no account and cannot see your other sites. Team members who need more access can be invited with a role.
