What is Mattermost?

Mattermost gives teams a Slack-style workspace they can host themselves. It is used for day-to-day chat and for structured work such as DevSecOps, incident resolution and IT service desks, where keeping data on your own servers matters.

Mattermost is an open-core, self-hosted collaboration platform with team chat, workflow automation, voice calling, screen sharing and AI integration. It runs on your own servers via Docker, Ubuntu or a tarball, or in Mattermost's cloud, with native desktop and mobile apps.

Core capabilities

  • Chat in channels and direct messages, with voice calls and screen sharing.
  • Automate team workflows and connect tools through webhooks, slash commands and plugins.
  • Deploy on your own servers with Docker, Ubuntu packages or a tarball.

Chat, calls and screen sharing

Channels and direct messages cover everyday conversation, while voice calling and screen sharing handle quick discussions without another tool. Native desktop and mobile apps keep the team connected wherever they work.

Where it fits

Use cases

  1. 01

Keep sensitive conversations on your servers

Run team chat on infrastructure you control, so client or internal discussions never pass through a third-party chat service.

  2. 02

Coordinate an incident in one place

Bring engineers into a channel, call or share a screen, and use workflow automation to follow the same response steps every time.

  3. 03

    Connect chat to developer tools

Post updates from CI, Git and monitoring tools through webhooks and plugins, and act on them with slash commands without leaving the conversation.
