What is Ghostfolio?

Ghostfolio is for people who invest through several brokers and want one view of everything they own. It replaces a home-made spreadsheet with performance figures, allocation charts and a risk check. Running it yourself keeps your financial data on your own server.

Ghostfolio is open-source wealth management software for tracking stocks, ETFs, cryptocurrencies and other assets across several accounts. It calculates portfolio performance including dividends, shows allocations by account, asset class, currency, region and sector, and runs a static analysis called X-ray to flag potential risks. It is a web app that can also be added to a phone home screen.

Core capabilities

  • Shows returns including dividends for Today, WTD, MTD, YTD, 1Y, 5Y and Max.
  • X-ray static analysis flags potential risks in your portfolio.
  • Imports and exports activities, and offers a public API.

Portfolio tracking and analysis

Ghostfolio tracks stocks, ETFs, bonds, cryptocurrencies, dividends, wealth items and liabilities across multiple accounts. Performance is shown as return on average investment including dividends for Today, WTD, MTD, YTD, 1Y, 5Y and Max, and can be compared with benchmarks. Allocations break the portfolio down by account, asset class, currency, region and sector. The X-ray analysis points out potential risks, and a FIRE calculator helps plan for financial independence.

Market data, import and API

Prices come from the Yahoo and CoinGecko data sources, and a MANUAL source covers assets that no provider supports. Activities can be imported and exported, and a public API accepts imports with a bearer token. An experimental Model Context Protocol server lets an AI client analyse the portfolio and import activities. Access to the professional GHOSTFOLIO data provider needs a paid Ghostfolio Premium subscription.

Run it yourself under AGPL-3.0

Official Docker images are published for linux/amd64, linux/arm/v7 and linux/arm64. Copy .env.example to .env and run docker compose -f docker/docker-compose.yml up -d, which starts Ghostfolio with PostgreSQL and Redis. Open port 3333 and create the first user, who becomes the admin, and back up with regular database dumps. Ghostfolio is released under the AGPL-3.0 licence, and Ghostfolio Premium is a separate paid cloud service from the same team.

Use cases

  1. 01

See all your investments in one portfolio

Create an account for each broker or bank, and group accounts at the same institution under a platform. Record buy, sell, dividend, fee and interest activities by hand or import them. The portfolio pages then show performance, holdings and allocations by asset class, currency, region and sector.

  2. 02

Compare your returns with a benchmark

In the Admin Control panel, open Market Data, choose an asset profile such as the S&P 500 or Gold and tick Include in Benchmark / Markets. The asset then appears under Compare with next to your own performance. Returns are calculated as return on average investment and include dividends.

  3. 03

Track assets without a market price

Ghostfolio can record wealth items such as a watch, liabilities such as a student loan, and an emergency fund target. For an asset that no data provider covers, create an asset profile in Market Data with Add Manually and a unique symbol. Then add activities by searching for that symbol.
