What is Baserow?
Baserow lets people who are used to spreadsheets build proper shared databases without writing code. You set up tables, link them together and collect data through forms, then build simple apps and automations on top. Because you can host it yourself, the data stays on infrastructure you control.
Baserow is a no-code database with a spreadsheet-like interface, built on Django, Vue.js and PostgreSQL. Teams create tables with linked records, formulas and other field types, and view them as grids, galleries or forms. The open-source edition also includes an application builder, automations, dashboards, a REST API and webhooks.
Core capabilities
- Spreadsheet-style tables with linked records, lookups, rollups and formulas.
- Imports Airtable bases, CSV, Excel, XML and JSON into new tables.
- Generates REST API documentation for every database automatically.
Tables, fields and views
Each database holds tables with field types such as text, numbers, dates, files, single and multiple select, link to table, lookup, rollup and formula. Data can be shown in grid, gallery and form views, with filtering, sorting, search and grouping. Views can be shared publicly through a link, and forms let outside people add rows. You can import CSV, Excel, XML and JSON files, or a whole Airtable base, and export tables as CSV.

Applications, automations and the API
The Application Builder turns tables into web applications made of pages, elements and data sources, published on your own domain. Automations run workflows from triggers and actions, and dashboards show summary figures from your tables. Every database gets auto-generated REST API documentation, with tokens that limit access per table. Webhooks notify other systems when rows, views or fields change.

Run it yourself under MIT
The quickest start is a single Docker container, baserow/baserow, with BASEROW_PUBLIC_URL set and a baserow_data volume for storage. The image runs PostgreSQL, Redis and a Caddy proxy with automatic HTTPS inside one container, and the docs recommend an external PostgreSQL database for production. Docker Compose, Helm and guides for several cloud hosts are also documented. The Baserow Open Source Edition is released under the MIT licence, while Kanban, calendar and timeline views, row comments, AI fields, role-based permissions, audit logs and SSO belong to the paid Premium and Enterprise editions.

Where it fits
Use cases
- 01
Move a team's Airtable base to your own server
Create a new database with the Import from Airtable option and paste the base's public share link. Baserow brings over the tables, records, attachments, links between tables and grid views with their filters, sorts and grouping. Automations and Airtable interfaces are not imported and need to be rebuilt with Baserow automations and the Application Builder.
- 02
Turn a table into an internal tool or client portal
In the Application Builder, add pages and connect them to your tables through data sources. Place elements such as tables, forms, buttons and login on each page, and set events so that clicking a button updates a row. Publish the application on a subdomain or your own domain.

Connect Baserow to other systems
Open View API Docs from a database's menu to see endpoints generated for its tables, and create a database token with create, read, update and delete rights set per table. Add a webhook to a table so Baserow sends a request to your URL when rows are created, updated or deleted. Data sync can also keep a table filled from an iCal feed or a PostgreSQL table.
